Schoolyard Renewal Project

Schoolyard Renewal Committee

Our schoolyard is as important as any classroom at Connaught and right now, it needs our attention.

You have probably noticed that the big yard (for our children in Grades 1 to 6) is more brown than green. Almost 80% of our tree canopy has been lost due to encroaching development and the yard is dominated by dust and concrete.

In addition, did you know that the play structure in the kindergarten yard is at the end of its 25-year life span? The school board does not replace play structures so, unless we do something, it will simply be removed.

We need to make our school yard a place where young minds and bodies can grow, where creativity will blossom and where memories take root. This is why the Connaught School Council is launching a fundraising campaign for $180,000 to renew, revitalize and green our schoolyard.

Over the next two years, we want to raise enough funds to bring an outdoor classroom to the big yard, replace the aging kindergarten play structure (in summer 2017), plant new shade trees, and make other enhancements to create a yard that is green, fun and accessible.

How can you help? Our goal of $180,000 is significant and we need your help to achieve it.
